4,4′-MDI can be extensively used to make urethane elastomers and urethane coatings.[1] This substance is listed on the positive list of the EU regulation 10/2011 for plastics intended to come into contact with food.

4,4′-MDI may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in wastewater and air samples,[2][3][4] and human biological samples[5] by various chromatographic techniques.
