This dye exists as a dark violet powder with green metallic sheen. Eriochrome Black T is soluble in water and alcohol, but insoluble in common organic solvents.[1] It is mainly used as an indicator in ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) method to determine hardness of water.[2] Eriochrome® Black T is used as an indicator for complexometric titrations.[3] It functions as an acid-base indicator.[4] Eriochrome® Black T forms complex with Ca2+ and Mg2+, but it binds more strongly to Mg2+ ions.[5] Application Eriochrome® Black T has been used to determine the concentration of Ca2+ using complexometric titration method.[6] Legal Information Eriochrome is a registered trademark of Huntsman Petrochemical, LLC |
